My Creative Process – Pt. 1
I've been getting a lot of questions from friends lately about "what's next" for jinieyang.com, and the more I get to talk about it in person, the more excited I get! I thought it would be a good idea to start recording what's going on in my head through my blog. Right now, I'm battling with a lot of the insecurities that come alongside getting my personal work out there. That being said, I just want to thank my friends for all the support with the rebranding and relaunching of my website! So many of you have listened to my crazy word vomiting and have kindly smiled, nodded, given me feedback, and listened. I promise there will be so much more to come, but in the meantime, I wanted to share with you today what my vision is (so far) for my creative services!
I'm recently engaged (as of January 13th! hi Pete!) and am currently in the works of planning our wedding–AND doing all the wedding paper designs (I might regret saying this out loud later). One value that I find super important is for my services to be approachable. Now that I'm getting a taste of what it's like to be on the client-side of things, I will admit that creative services can oftentimes be intimidating! I hope that whatever service it may be–a photography session or designing a semi-custom template–that my clients would find this space friendly and warm. My goal is to make sure no one is being left in the dark–nothing is worse than feeling stuck or confused about something you are paying for and really looking forward to having!
I'm honestly still mulling over this one! I know for certain that I'm not meant to be a full-time wedding photographer, and I know that I probably won't offer full custom branding/designing services. My focus for jinieyang.com is going to be figuring out how to combine the two because I love to do both. So far, I'm getting together my quote for all those "nice-to-have" portraits (i.e. proposal story, baby birthdays, maternity sessions). My next step will be to design some semi-custom templates. And finally, I'm hoping to offer some packages that will combine both photo sessions x paper designs (i.e. Christmas cards (!), Save the Dates, etc.) Lots and lots of good things to come!
In a recent Instagram post, I wrote that my new website is starting to feel more like "me". I'm currently working on making everything more cohesive (even in my photography) and want to continue refining my overall look and feel. Have you read this article on Imposter Syndrome? This is probably the most accurate description of everything that's going through my head and keeping me up at night right now. The ebb and flow of this process has been an exciting but also incredibly scary adventure. More often than not, you can find me crumbling up my paper scraps and practice sheets at 2AM in the morning and holding back tears of frustration.
But to end on a positive note, there have also been extremely rewarding moments–a handful of those, actually! Like the time I got to sit down with my friends who got engaged and see their reactions to the engagement session photos we took. And that time I reached out to some former clients (aka amazing friends) and asked for testimonials and actually got the sweetest love notes back. At the end of the day, I know that my gifts and talents were given to me for a purpose, and I want to be able to use them so, so well.
Thank you so much for following along–even before I had these ideas in my head! Your support means a lot, whether I have a personal connection with you or not!
